Naturopathic Medicine is a unique and comprehensive approach to improving health and treating illness. It combines modern medical sciences, and natural remedies to encourage the body's own ability to heal. Naturopathy focuses on treating diseases gently and naturally, and on raising the level of one's health to prevent diseases from occurring. A Naturopath does not use harsh pharmaceuticals and invasive treatments that often have undesirable side effects. Rather they use nutrition, vitamin supplements, herbal remedies, acupuncture, and more to free the individual from disease.

The primary goal of naturopathic treatments is to address the underlying cause of illness, rather than mask the symptoms. Naturopathy is a natural approach to health that recognizes the integrity of the whole person through each individual's inherent healing capacity.

In teaching clients how to live a healthy, holistic lifestyle, naturopaths follow these principles:

Do no harm
Naturopaths do not use harmful, artificial substances such as drugs and pharmaceuticals; nor do they use invasive and dangerous procedures such as surgery.

Work with the healing power of nature
Naturopaths understand the body's innate capacity for self-healing. They educate clients in creating external and internal environments conducive to healing.

Find and eliminate the cause of poor health
Naturopaths help clients evaluate their lifestyle choices in order to identify both the cause of a problem and how it is best corrected.

Teach health
Naturopaths teach clients how to achieve and maintain good health. They empower their clients, enabling them to participate fully in the process of staying well.

Honour the Total Person
Naturopaths understand that people are interconnected physical, mental, and spiritual beings, and that one disease affects all areas of life.

Disease Prevention
By teaching clients how to create and maintain a healthy balance, naturopaths help others achieve future health.

What To Expect On Your First Visit.

You will be asked to fill out a comprehensive case history form. Please arrive early in
order to fill these out.

Shortly thereafter, as your wait will not be long, Dr. Kiani will come to greet you and your visit will begin.
Most first visits are between 1- 1½ hours long. This is necessary in order to get a thorough medical history from you, as well as a detailed understanding of who you really are and what your lifestyle is like. Your eating, sleeping and work habits, as well as your leisure activities, all affect your health. It takes time to gather this information and discuss how these factors can be improved. Following this portion of the visit, there is often a short physical examination which then leads us to a treatment plan.

A short-term and long-term treatment plan will be discussed in the first visit. Dr. Kiani will present the best options available, and together with your input, a personalized treatment plan will be created that will achieve maximal results

What are the qualifications of a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic doctors go through extensive medical training and examination before they are legally allowed to practice. They require a Bachelor of Science degree or a minimum of three years of university education in pre-medical sciences to enter one of the five naturopathic medical schools in North America. The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine is Canada's leading accredited school for the naturopathic program. The program is four years long and includes a one year intensive clinical rotation. Midway through the program, and upon graduation from any of the colleges, two sets of NPLEx licensing exams (coordinated by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE)) must be successfully completed before naturopathic doctors are allowed to practice.
